On February 27th, 2012 each educator will be leading a Racing Team into the Williams Elementary Speedway for the traditional Opening Ceremonies and joining in on the festivities to the start of the "Chase for the Cup". All driver participants receive their own all-access WASCAR Lanyard with Pit Pass Credential Holder, while all WASCAR Fans receive their own general admission Lanyard with Pit Pass Credential Holder. Each day thereafter all participants will choose the area of interest desired to compete in. They will compete against all ages of WASC students which will result in first-place, second-place, third-place and fourth-place finishes. At the end of each day, all points accumulated for each team will be recorded on the main bulletin board in the WASC Home Room as well as below. Some of our more popular competitive activities leading up to our main event, the Auburndale 500, are Candy Car Creations, Matchbox Races, Pit Crew Quizzer (Charades), Pit Row Race, Race Car Bean Bag Toss (Baggo), Road Rally Race and the WASCAR of the Year, to name a few.
On March 2nd, 2012 each educator will be returning a Racing Team back to the Williams Elementary Speedway for the Closing Ceremonies, honoring those who participated in the games and for their achievements accomplished throughout the course of the week's events.
Chase for the Cup:
The Chase for the Cup – In the true spirit of sportsmanship, fair play, friendship and the Great American Race, each student participating in the WASCAR Games takes the pledge to honor their obligations and promises; exercise self-control; respect authority; accept accountability for their behavior and its outcomes; be fair in their dealings with others on and off the race track; play by the spirit, not just the letter, of the rules of the game and the rules of life; realize that there are four roles in sports – player, coach, official or fan – and each will respect the others; keep the game – winning and losing – in perspective; and strive to make their community better because of their contributions as an athlete and a citizen.
Participating Teams:
The children of WASC form into four separate teams ranging in all ages. Each team conceptualizes a Team Name, Flag and strategy for the one week event.
